Landon Lupi is an enrolled member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota Tribe. He was born on the Pine Ridge reservation and grew up in Rapid City, South Dakota. He attended Rapid City Stevens High School, where he was a three-sport athlete. He comes from a large family that is culturally/religiously inclined. Landon’s mother is Lisa Phelps, and his closest father figure is his stepfather, Thomas Brown. His uncles were part of a well-known powwow group, Eagle Mountain, who taught him cultural and traditional singing, though they haven’t traveled recently. His family also supported and sundanced with Chief Frank Fools Crow while he was alive. Landon ran track and field at South Dakota State University, where he completed his college education. He also enjoys learning his Lakota/Dakota language and singing.
